Breaking Bad Analysis

Camera Shots/angles:

Over the shoulder:

During this specific scene from the show, there is a large amount of over the shoulder angles such as the one above. This  is mostly used to show the conversation between Walter and his wife, Skyler. The main purpose of this type of this shot in this scene to allow the audience to focus on Walter during their conversation since he is the main focus of the scene as it signifies the change in personality that is undertaken by the character.

Low angle shot:

This scene represents how the character changes from his ‘innocent’ persona of Walter to the power and danger driven Heisenberg. One of the main camera shots that highlight this transformation is a low angle shot. This specific shot is used to give the audience a sense of the power that Walter has, especially over Skyler. It also makes the character appear much more threatening.

Close up:

This type of shot is used, specifically in this scene, to show the facial expressions and emotions of Walter’s wife, Skyler. Thisshot enables to see just how scared and confused Skyler is whilst she witnesses her husband almost completely change identity from what she once knew him to be. A close up of Skyler allows the audience to see just how Skyler feels about what is going on.

Two Shot:

A two shot is used in this scene to represent Walter and Skyler’s relation ship and how it is taking a turn for the worse. The fact thatwhen this shot is used, Walter has his back to Skyler the entire time shows that their relationship isn’t a positive one and that there is an issue between them.

Common Stereotypes

REPRESENTATIONS – COMMON STEREOTYPES

Representation in The Media in 100 Words

Representation refers to the construction in any medium of aspects of ‘reality’. By definition, all media texts are re-presentations of reality. This means that they are intentionally composed, lit, written, framed, cropped, captioned, branded, targeted and censored by their producers; also they are entirely artificial versions of the reality we perceive around us.

Every media form, is a representation of someone's concept of existence. Without the media, our perception of reality would be very limited. In other words we need the media to make sense of reality. Therefore representation is a fluid, two-way process between the producer and the audience.

Self representation

Self-representation

What media figures (actors, musicians, sportspeople, celebrities) do you consider similar to you. In what way are they similar to you/ are you similar to them?

Jeremy Clarkson

The first media figure that I would consider myself similar to is Jeremy Clarkson. Even though I do not appear to be similar to him, there is one thing that we both have in common which are cars. We both share a love for fast cars such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris. I also picked Clarkson out of the three hosts of Top Gear since it appears we both share the same sort of sense of humour

Russell Howard

The second media figure that I would say that I was similar to is Russell Howard, who also happens to be my favourite comedian. I believe the similarities between me and Howard comes from our clothing. We both have a similar ‘casual’ style which mainly consists of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I also share the same sort of sense of humour as Russell Howard. I can tell this due to the fact that I am a fan of pretty much whatever he does and find his material very funny.

My style

I mostly dress in a casual way which usually consists of a t-shirt and either shorts or jeans in all weather conditions. I usually wear converse or plimsoll type shoes such as Vans. The only accessory I constantly wear is my watch which is a black/blue G-Shock.

UK Tribes
After looking at the UK tribes websites and all the types of tribes, I would consider myself two be part of two tribes. The first is the 'Townies'. I consider myself part of this tribe because I feel I can relate to how it is described. I think I am someone who 'goes with the flow' and keep up to date with what is happening in the media. I also am a big fan of football but not a full on fanatic. The other group I consider myself to be a part of is Sports Junkies. I think this because I am a fan of most sports and like to play most sports.
